Destiny 2 Beta Quick Prep Guide

Are you shaking in anticipation? When you see the word ‘Destiny’ and the number ‘2’ together do you grin like a little schoolgirl?

You’ve watched the reveals, you read the information articles, and you’ve poured over the Bungie weekly updates. We all know Destiny 2 releases September 6th for consoles and about a month later for the PC. But the Beta is right around the corner. And by around the corner, just a few days. Here are a few things you need to do to prepare for the Destiny 2 Beta.

If you haven’t done so, get Destiny 2 pre-ordered! You have up until 7/18 to pre-order to receive a unique code that gives you access to the Beta. If you haven’t pre-ordered yet, we recommend doing a digital copy to get your access code fast. Retailers are averaging 2-3 days to get you your code.

Know Your Dates!

Not everyone can start the Beta at the same time, depending on what console you’re going to play. (Sorry PC owners, you’ll have to wait until at least mid-August.) The dates are:

  • July 18: PlayStation 4 start
  • July 19: Xbox One start
  • July 21: Open Beta start for all PS4 and Xbox One.
  • July 23: Console Beta ends.

Get Your Console’s Code!

So you got your code from the retailer you pre-ordered from. You’re not done. This is a unique code provided by the retailer. You must now go to to activate it. Here are the steps:

  1. Sign into your account at
  2. Hover your mouse over your profile icon in the upper right and select “Redeem Code” OR
  3. Click on your profile icon and click on “CODES” near the top of the screen
  4. Enter in the code you received the retailer and pick your console (make sure if you have a PS4 you choose the right region).
  5. When you submit the code, you’ll get a specific code for your console.

Enter Code into Console!

For either the Xbox One or PS4, you can go to their respective stores on the console and redeem the new code that way. Or you can do it from the Xbox Companion App or the Xbox/PS Store online.

When you enter in the code, the Destiny 2 Beta will pre-load. You can sit there and watch the progress bar creep to 100%, but you won’t be able to do anything but stare at the Destiny 2 splash screen. Which is elegant, by the way. If you try to launch the game, you’ll get a message about offline servers.

Nothing you can do now but wait until the Beta launches!

Destiny 2 launches for the PS4 and Xbox One on September 6th and on October 24th for the PC.
